Food supplement "Antioxidants"

Antioxidants offer protection against so-called "free radicals" and are therefore also known as radical scavengers. Free radicals are highly reactive oxygen compounds that are naturally produced by the human body. However, if harmful external influences such as cigarette smoke, environmental toxins or UV radiation from the sun cause an increase in the formation of free radicals, this can lead to health problems.
Free radicals cause oxidative stresswhich in turn damages the cells. As a result, the ageing process is accelerated and the body is less resistant.
Food supplements can support the body when it comes to the effects of free radicals. A reliable supply of antioxidants in the form of tablets and capsules withcapsules with VITAMIN E 400 I.U.or OPC. Discover these and many other products that protect your cells from oxidative stress.
Antioxidants protect the body's cells from oxidative stress. This is caused by free radicals and damages the cells. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and are found in vitamins, minerals, trace elements, enzymes and secondary plant substances - for example invitamin CB2 and E, zinc, selenium and beta-carotene,OPCand flavonoids.
The following foods are particularly rich in antioxidants:
  • Vitamin C: Acerola cherries (1,700 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 grams)
  • Vitamin B2: Offal such as liver as well as yeast, cereal germ and certain types of cheese.
  • Vitamin E: Wheat germ oil, olive oil, nuts
  • Zinc: Wheat bran and pumpkin seeds
  • Selenium: Meat, fish and eggs as well as mushrooms, cabbage and onion vegetables, lentils, asparagus and nuts - especially Brazil nuts Carotenoids: carrots, tomatoes and red peppers. The body can best absorb these when cooked with a little fat.1
Researchers measure the antioxidant potential of different types of fruit and vegetables using the ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). This indicates the endurance of a radical scavenger. Aronia, for example, has a particularly high antioxidant content with 16,000 antioxidant units.2 You can also take nutritional supplements, such as MULTI GREEN LIFE - Vitamins & Minerals.
Astaxanthin in algae is considered to be the strongest antioxidant - even stronger than ß-carotene or vitamin E, for example. In difficult situations, the algae turn red and stop all other metabolic processes. It is said to be thanks to the protective antioxidant that the algae can survive for decades even under the most difficult conditions.

OPCs, or "oligomeric proanthocyanidins", are also suitable antioxidants. These are natural, plant-based bitter substances that belong to the group of bioflavonoids and are classified as polyphenols. They are found, for example, in grape seeds and the skins of red grapes, as in our OPC GRAPE NUT EXTRACT capsules.
Excessive formation of free radicals can impair the function of cells, accelerate their ageing or even lead to their malfunction. Oxidative damage refers to irreversible damage to the cells. It is assumed that an excess of oxidative stress is involved in the development of various diseases. These include
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • diabetes
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Parkinson's disease
  • various eye diseases
A positive effect of antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E and alpha-linoleic acid in skin creams has not been conclusively proven. As antioxidants in skin creams are often unstable compounds, they could lose their potential effect through exposure to air and UV light soon after application.
What is considered effective, however, is sun protection: this protects the cells from oxidative stress and can therefore slow down the ageing of the skin - especially as UV rays are responsible for up to 80 percent of visible skin ageing according to studies.3
As beauty is known to come from within, a balanced diet with a sufficient supply of antioxidants can contribute to beautiful and healthy skin in a holistic way.
