The "sun vitamin" for bones, immune system, muscles and much more
VITAMIN D3 tablets are full of "sun vitamins". Although the body can produce it itself, it needs UV radiation to do so, which decreases significantly, especially in winter.
Vitamin D is particularly important for bone formation, muscles and teeth and plays a regulating role in the immune system.* Experts warn that the population in Central and Northern Europe suffers from vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to osteoporosis ("bone loss") in particular*.
Older people and people who spend less time outdoors are particularly affected by vitamin D deficiency. In winter, vitamin D deficiency affects almost all age groups due to less UV radiation.
The solution: high-dose VITAMIN D3 tablets
The body needs vitamin D for this
Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble vitamins. The body absorbs vitamin D from food and can also produce it itself under the influence of sunlight. Our musculoskeletal system is exposed to a variety of stresses. Bones and joints suffer from poor posture, one-sided strain, obesity and, of course, age-related deterioration. There is often a lack of important nutrients such as vitamin D.
Vitamin D3 is essential for maintaining normal bones - also in that it contributes to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and thus normalizes the calcium level in the blood.* Vitamin D3 is also necessary for an intact immune system, normal muscle function and the maintenance of normal teeth.* "Vitamin D deficiency is the reason for bone loss.
"Vitamin D deficiency is the cause of many epidemic diseases" (according to Jeff T. Bowles)
The well-known American author of health books Jeff T. Bowles is of the opinion that vitamin D deficiency is the cause of many epidemic diseases and health problems. These diseases have been on the rise since the 1980s, when doctors advised people to stop going out in the sun and always use sun cream because of the risk of skin cancer. This leads to the body not being able to produce enough vitamin D itself even in summer (blocked by sun cream). Bowles is convinced that these recommendations have led to "the great epidemics of obesity, autism, asthma and many others that we face today". His theory is simple: "Vitamin D3 is actually a hormone produced by our skin when we sit in the sun. It is not a vitamin, it was just misclassified as such when it was discovered. When our vitamin D3 stores are depleted, our body starts to prepare for hibernation by making us overeat - or it makes us slow down to conserve energy. Or it makes us feel depressed so we stay indoors."
Bowles also says of himself: "I myself studied disease and the ageing process for more than 20 years, and for 10 of those years I spent 12 hours a day in a medical university library researching clinical and scientific studies! I published three major papers; the journal that published them has five Nobel Prize winners among its editorial team. And my work was considered highly exciting and very important."
To prove that vitamin D is not harmful in high doses, as some claim, Bowles undertook a risky self-experiment: He took extremely high doses of vitamin D (up to 100,000 iU.) every day for 10 months. He describes the results in his book "Hochdosiert: The miraculous effects of extremely high doses of vitamin D3: the big secret the pharmaceutical industry wants to keep from you".
Experts warn: 60% of the population suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Avoid an undersupply!
Vitamin D is produced in the skin by sunlight and is essential for our immune system and bones. However, according to the latest study by the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin, around 60% of the population is vitamin D deficient. Experts have long warned that the population in Central and Northern Europe suffers from vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to osteoporosis (bone loss) in particular. This increases the risk of bone fractures, especially in older people. However, younger people who spend less time outdoors are also affected by a vitamin D deficiency. In winter (less UV radiation), vitamin D deficiency affects almost all age groups.
It is essential to avoid an undersupply here!
Too low a vitamin D level can be caused by ...
- Too little sunlight (blocked by clothing or sun creams, too little time spent outdoors, too few hours of daylight in winter)
- Malnutrition
- Reduced absorption of vitamin D from the intestine (coeliac disease)
- Increased requirement (pregnancy and breastfeeding, children)
- Taking certain medications (anti-epileptic drugs)
- Increased excretion via the kidneys
Which is better: sun or vitamin D supplements?
More and more scientists are recommending NOT to deliberately expose yourself to the sun in order to cover your vitamin D requirements. This is because it is well known that the sun can cause lasting damage to the skin - which can lead not only to premature skin ageing but also to skin cancer. Of course, this doesn't mean that you should stop going outside! Quite the opposite. But refrain from spending too long in the blazing sun just to stimulate your body's vitamin D production. Vitamin D tablets are therefore a safe and easy way to meet the body's vitamin D requirements without increasing the risk of skin cancer.
Study: Vitamin D plays a key role in the immune system
An American study of almost 19,000 people showed that people with low vitamin D levels have a roughly one-third higher risk of respiratory infections. The study once again confirms the key role that the vitamin plays in the immune system. And it offers a further explanation for the fact that a particularly large number of people suffer from colds in winter: Because less vitamin D is produced in the body due to the shorter daylight hours.
