Tablets with vitamin B12 - the all-rounder among the B vitamins
Vitamin B12, also known as "cobalamin", fulfills many important functions in energy metabolism, in the nervous system and in the formation of red blood cells.* Vitamin B12 also supports cell division.* Vitamin B12 also contributes to a normal immune system and homocysteine metabolism.* According to the latest research, excessive homocysteine levels are responsible for one in ten heart attacks and strokes.
The VITAMIN B12 tablets from Vitactiv can offer you useful support in all the areas mentioned. They contain high-quality methylcobalamin, the bioactive and particularly easily utilizable form of vitamin B12, and therefore stand for the highest quality.
The history of vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 was the last of the vitamins known today to be discovered.
A deficiency disease, "pernicious anemia", contributed to this. This disease was first described at the beginning of the 19th century. For around 100 years, sufferers were successfully treated with beef liver. However, it was not until the early 1950s that researchers discovered that the vitamin B12 it contained was a decisive factor. In 1955, the molecular structure of vitamin B12 was then clarified - and thus an important step was taken for human health.
Do you have a vitamin B12 deficiency?
The first signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency in adults can take various forms:
- Tingling and feeling cold in the hands and feet
- Exhaustion and a feeling of weakness (muscle weakness)
- Concentration problems and problems with memory
- Psychological complaints (e.g. mood swings)
These are some of the most common symptoms that may indicate a deficiency.
Reason for a vitamin B12 deficiency ...
... can also be a vegetarian or vegan diet - i.e. without the consumption of meat, eggs and dairy products. After all, vitamin B12 is found almost exclusively in animal foods. A dietary supplement such as VITAMIN B12 tablets from Vitactiv can help to prevent a nutritional deficiency.
However, chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa and reduced stomach acid production can also cause a vitamin B12 deficiency. This is because the body simply does not absorb enough vitamin B12 in these stomach diseases. A transport protein, the so-called "intrinsic factor", is necessary for vitamin B12 to enter the bloodstream via the intestinal mucosa. At a young age, the body produces enough of this transport protein - later it becomes less and less. In addition, inflammatory diseases of the small intestine can also hinder the absorption of vitamin B12.
This is why people 50+ in particular need vitamin B12
As already mentioned, the gastric mucosa produces less and less "intrinsic factor" as we get older. And intestinal function often deteriorates with age. It is not uncommon for illnesses to result from a vitamin B12 deficiency - from exhaustion and susceptibility to infections to nerve pain and coordination problems through to depression. For this reason, people over the age of 50 should take vitamin B12 in addition to their diet.

What dosage forms are available for vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 supplements are available as tablets, capsules, lozenges, drops, sprays and patches. Injections, which are usually administered by a doctor, are used in cases of severe deficiency.
If you choose our product, you will receive high-quality B12 in a convenient tablet form.
Which are the best vitamin B12 tablets?
The best B12 vitamin tablets are certainly those that contain a bioactive form of the vitamin - this can be methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin.
Many food supplements only use the synthetic form cyanocobalamin. This must first be converted in the body into the bioactive forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, which requires additional energy. In addition, the very low cyanide content can be problematic for people with kidney or liver problems and also for smokers (tobacco smoke already contains a certain amount of cyanide). Cyanocobalamin is very inexpensive and is therefore often used in vitamin B supplements. But it is not the best choice.
Our VITAMIN B12 tablets from the Vitactiv brand offer you high-quality methylcobalamin - the B12 form with the highest bioavailability . This means that it is best absorbed and utilized by your body.
Which foods contain vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin that is mainly found in animal foods. Here are the main sources:
- Meat: Beef and veal, liver and kidneys are particularly rich in vitamin B12.
- Fish and seafood: Fish such as salmon, mackerel and tuna as well as shellfish such as oysters and mussels contain high amounts of vitamin B12.
- Eggs: Both the yolk and the egg white contain vitamin B12, but the yolk is slightly richer.
- Dairy products: Cheese, yogurt and dairy products are also good sources.
- Fortified foods: Some plant-based foods such as fortified plant milks, breakfast cereals and yeast flakes may have added vitamin B12.
For vegans and vegetarians in particular, it can be useful to use fortified foods or supplements with vitamin B12.
