What is SAM-e?

"S-adenosylmethionine", or "SAM-e" for short (or "SAMe"), is an amino acid compound and exists in every cell of our body. SAM-e is involved in over 35 biochemical reactions. Study "SAM-e and memory"
An elevated level of homocysteine (α-amino acids) in the blood is generally a risk factor for memory problems. These levels suggest that Alzheimer's is associated with low levels of SAMe in the cerebrospinal fluid. This is partly due to the association that the APOE4 genotype is associated with reduced levels of SAMe in the cerebrospinal fluid.

This study investigated the use of SAMe for joint complaints - in terms of pain control and functional improvement in subjects with knee problems. The result: SAMe takes a little longer to help than conventional remedies - but it helps just as well.
