Food supplements
for bones & joints

When it comes to healthy joints and bones, there's no getting around the topic of healthy nutrition. Find out here what the right diet is for healthy joints and what nutrients muscles, bones and joints need. Also: Which foods and vitamins strengthen the joints? What diet for osteoarthritis? What diet for joint pain? And what is the effect of dietary supplements for joints?

Before we give you tips on what a balanced diet looks like, we would like to show you what you should avoid if you have joint problems or want to keep your joints healthy.

Sausage and meat fuel inflammation

Reduce your consumption of meat and sausage products! Excessive consumption can promote inflammatory processes in the body. And this can also affect the joints.

Phosphate - the calcium killer

Phosphate (phosphorus) is an important mineral for our bones. The problem, however, is an excess of phosphate, which can easily be achieved through our daily diet. If we consume too much phosphate, valuable calcium is released from our bones. The risk of osteoporosis (bone loss) increases and bone fractures can occur. Phosphate-rich foods include cola, fast food, ready meals, processed cheese, baked goods, potato chips and other fried foods. By the way: sugar, caffeine and nicotine are also - like phosphate - calcium robbers.

What kind of diet is particularly good for your joints? Which vitamins and minerals ensure normal joint function? And what role does magnesium play in joint health? Read on ...

How can I strengthen my joints? Many people ask themselves this question. The answer is simple: a balanced diet with fruit, vegetables, nuts, fish, wholemeal and low-fat dairy products is the best way to provide joints with healthy nutrients. On the other hand, the consumption of meat, convenience foods, fast food and foods high in sugar should be reduced.

In order for joints to fulfill important functions, they need to be in constant use; regular exercise that is easy on the joints, such as cycling or swimming, is good for them. This provides them with important nutrients and oxygen. Also important: a balanced diet, which should be rich in vitamins A, C, D, E and beta-carotene as well as the trace element selenium.1

The best choice for a vitamin-rich diet is and remains fruit and vegetables - especially when it comes to supplying the well-known vitamin C. Fruit and vegetables also contain valuable antioxidants that support cell protection against oxidative stress, i.e. "free radicals".

When it comes to bone preservation, one vitamin should not be missing: Vitamin K - preferably in combination with vitamin D. Vitamin D is found in animal foods in particular - e.g. eggs, fish and liver. For vegans and vegetarians, dietary supplements with vegan vitamin D are a good way to avoid a vitamin D deficiency. People who spend little time outdoors are particularly keen to prevent osteoporosis with vitamin D. Because if the body gets too little sunlight on the skin, it also produces too little vitamin D.

Minerals and trace elements are also very important for joint health. The minerals magnesium and calcium contribute to bone maintenance, as does the trace element zinc. Magnesium and calcium also support muscle function, which is essential for joint stability. Our tip: oat flakes - preferably whole grain quality. In addition to magnesium, calcium and zinc, they contain plenty of iron as well as vitamins B1, B6 and E. Oatmeal is also relatively low in fat and provides high-quality protein and fiber. Incidentally, a glass of (low-fat) milk also provides lots of minerals and trace elements.

If you find it difficult to eat a healthy and balanced diet - and still don't want to be deficient in vitamins and minerals etc. - a natural food supplement is advisable. We recommend the best food supplements in the following paragraph.

The effect of joint supplements as dietary supplements is undisputed. But which are the best supplements for the joints? Before we introduce them to you, we would like to discuss when and for whom they are useful for the joints - let's start with the example of "bone loss" ...

Did you know that bone loss begins in humans from around the age of 40? On average, bone mass in men decreases by around 1% per year. In women during and after the menopause, bone density can even decrease by around 2-4% per year.2

Bones and joints become increasingly porous and unstable - the risk of fractures increases accordingly. One reason for this is the reduced absorption of calcium with increasing age - the trace element ingested with food is no longer utilized as well as it was when we were younger.

In terms of quantity, calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body and is essential for bone maintenance. The bones serve as a store for calcium. If there is a short-term calcium deficiency, some of it can be utilized from the bones and made available to the body for other tasks. However, if the deficiency persists for a longer period of time, the bones become "decalcified" - this can lead to bone loss (osteoporosis), which affects many older people.

We recommend CALCIUM MARIN for a supplementary intake of calcium and to prevent a calcium deficiency. The vegan capsules contain pure calcium from marine algae plus natural vitamin D3. The mineral complex CALCIUM MAGNESIUM ZINC is also very good. As the name suggests, the tablets consist of high-quality calcium, a high proportion of magnesium and zinc - triple support for the maintenance and function of bones.

A good reason to also rely on magnesium when it comes to your joint health is the effectiveness of the mineral in terms of bone maintenance and muscle function. According to a study, one in three people are deficient in magnesium. Magnesium levels decrease with increasing age - older women have the lowest levels.3 Our top magnesium product: MAGNESIUM KOMPLEX - capsules containing three different types of high-quality magnesium.

Which nutrient is still important - and is less and less present in our joints as we age? Hyaluronic acid, the main component of synovial fluid. Our body produces less and less hyaluronic acid as we get older. At the age of 40 it is still 50% of what the body previously produced - at the age of 60 it is only 10%.

Hyaluronic acid surrounds the joint surfaces and cartilage like a gel cushion. When the joint is in motion, the bones glide smoothly without rubbing against each other thanks to hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid also performs a shock-absorbing function, which is particularly important in the knee joints and spine.

Our product recommendation for the optimum supply of hyaluronic acid from the inside: HYALURON KOMPLEX capsules - with a high dose of 500 mg hyaluronic acid plus vitamins and trace elements to match .

Joint wear and tear and bone fragility affect women more often than men. From the age of 50, every third woman suffers from joint wear and tear, known as osteoarthritis. From the age of 60, it is even every second woman. In comparison, only one in four men over 50 is affected by osteoarthritis, and one in three over 60.

Why more women than men suffer from osteoarthritis has not yet been fully explained scientifically. However, it is assumed that it is due to hormonal changes after the menopause. In addition, joint cartilage is thinner in women than in men, which leads to faster wear and tear and ultimately to osteoarthritis.

The risk of bone fractures due to bone loss (osteoporosis) is also significantly higher in women. The reasons for this are, on the one hand, that women have a lower bone mass than men - on the other hand, the cause is also suspected to be oestrogen deficiency after the menopause.4 Nevertheless, we do not recommend oestrogen replacement therapy, as this can lead to considerable side effects. Special vital substance complexes with no side effects, no hormones and no chemical ingredients are more recommended.

Our best joint products for women and men include the Feelgood GELENK KOMPLEX sachets with collagen, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, glucosamine, frankincense, MSM and many other high-quality ingredients, the GELENK AKTIV forte capsule complex with patented Ovomet® eggshell membrane powder and green-lipped mussel powder for a pain-relieving effect and the CURCUMA + BOSWELLIA forte capsules.

More bone fractures in old age - women are affected more often, as we will see in a moment. The following chart shows the probability of bone and femoral neck fractures in women and men aged 60 and 80 respectively.2

Gender Age Femoral neck fracture Bone fracture
Women 60 years 2.3 percent 10 percent

80 years 15.5 percent 26 percent
Men 60 years 1.2 percent 5 percent

80 years 7.6 percent 13 percent

Joint problems do not only occur in old age. The generation between the ages of 30 and 50 is increasingly affected by osteoarthritis and arthritis due to sports injuries, accidents at work, overexertion during physical activity, long-term incorrect strain and lack of exercise - not least due to years of sitting at a computer. Added to this are poor diets that are low in vitamins and minerals. However, it is never too late to change your diet in good time. According to one study, one in three people suffer from a magnesium deficiency alone.3 And yet this mineral is of fundamental importance for our joints: magnesium supports bone maintenance, muscle function and nerves. Magnesium also reduces tiredness and fatigue - which also benefits the joints.

You too can benefit from magnesium and our premium nutritional supplements MAGNESIUM KOMPLEX and the mineral complex CALCIUM MAGNESIUM ZINC.

Our joints need two things: exercise - which can have a kind of joint-healing effect - and the right nutrients. The following vitamins, minerals and trace elements support the joints and the bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. The list also shows which nutrients are mainly contained in which (unprocessed) foods.

    • Vitamin D - animal foods

    • Vitamin K - green vegetables

    • Vitamin C - fruit, vegetables

    • Vitamin B6 - whole grains, meat, fish, nuts

    • Vitamin B12 - meat, fish, eggs, milk

    • Calcium - milk, green vegetables

    • Magnesium - seeds, kernels, nuts, whole grains

    • Zinc - seeds, nuts, meat

    • Manganese - wholegrains, pulses, nuts

    • Phosphorus - meat, milk, eggs

As you can see, many good "joint nutrients" are contained in animal products. To avoid eating too much of them and still provide targeted support for the joints, vegan or vegetarian food supplements are ideal, e.g. VITAMIN D3 + K2 1000 I.U. DROPS, VITAMIN B12 tablets and the VITAMIN B 50 Complex tablets as a complex with all eight B vitamins.

And then there are two substances without which our joints would not function: Hyaluronic acid and collagen for joints - contained in the HYALURON KOMPLEX capsules with joint vital substances and in the KOLLAGEN Aktiv Complex with type 2 collagen for inflammation, pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. Note: If the question arises "Which collagen is the right one for joints?", then the answer is: type 2 collagen, because type 1 is more for skin, hair and nails.

How does collagen powder work in the body? Collagen (or "collagen") forms the framework of joint cartilage to act as a natural shock absorber between the bones. However, the body's own production of collagen decreases from the age of 25. To compensate for this deficiency, there are nutritional supplements with collagen powder: What should you consider when buying? The more natural, the better. High-quality, undenatured collagen, such as the native type II collagen (UC-II® Collagen) in KOLLAGEN Aktiv Complex, does not contain any artificial additives. Can taking collagen powder be dangerous? No, collagen is one of the safest nutrients. There are no known problems with collagen dosage or serious side effects.

Would you like to harness the power of plants for your bone and joint health? Then get to know our top products among the "joint helpers".

Our insider tip is glucosamine and chondroitin: the inseparable joint duo among food supplements.what are glucosamine and chondroitin? It is the amino sugar glucosamine and the body's own cartilage component chondroitin - in a plant-based form for taking in food supplement tablets.

How do glucosamine and chondroitin work as food supplements? Both are natural components in our joints - especially in cartilage tissue. They help damaged cartilage cells to regenerate themselves and build up cartilage substance.

What should I look out for when using glucosamine and chondroitin products? The purity of the two substances is important. Make sure that glucosamine and chondroitin products are certified in accordance with German or EU law. The Feelgood Shop can guarantee this. And the very good customer reviews for the products speak for themselves: GLUCOSAMIN & CHONDROITIN tablets for more mobility and GLUCO CHONDRO PLUS tablets with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM sulphur, omega 3 and zinc for bone maintenance.

We wish you every success with our products - and that your joints will remain flexible and pain-free for a long time to come.
